Armstrong Priestley Sprinkler System Controls Blaze at a Major London Shopping Centre

The Westfield Stratford shopping centre in London was evacuated on Sunday 17th October due to a blaze in a shop within the centre.

8 appliances and 60 firefighters attended the incident at the shopping centre in response to a blaze as shoppers were evacuated.

It is believed to (yet to be confirmed) that the fire was caused by an electrical issue. It was measured that 25% of the retail unit was damaged by the fire. The unit was equipped with an automatic fire sprinkler system supplied and installed by us, (Armstrong Priestley), the system activated and suppressed the fire preventing it causing more damage. Due to the sprinkler system activating as it should, there were also no reported injuries from the fire.

This case really highlights the benefits of having appropriate fire prevention methods installed. A sprinkler controls the size of a fire and reduces the amount of smoke produced.

Maintenance of these sprinkler systems is vital to certify that they will work as they should, in the event that they’re needed in an emergency.
