How do sprinkler systems prevent fire spread in residential and commercial properties?

The sprinkler heads contain a glass phial filled with a heat-sensitive liquid. When the surrounding air heats up, the liquid expands. If the pressure on the glass phial is sustained, it will smash under the pressure, releasing water onto the flames.
