Automatic Fire Suppression System

Why do I need an automatic fire suppression system?

If you operate commercial premises, you will be legally obliged to have some form of fire suppression system.

One of the key benefits of an automatic fire suppression system design is that it will activate without human intervention.

These fast-acting systems are designed with heat and fire detection sensors. This automatic detection feature ensures that fire suppression starts in the early stages of the blaze. Many systems include an option for human intervention, giving an extra layer of security.

Installation of a well-designed automatic fire suppression system may give you lower insurance premiums.

Automatic fire suppression systems from Armstrong Priestley

We provide automatic fire suppression systems based on bespoke sprinklers. All our systems share the same objectives.

  • To protect life
  • To protect high-value assets
  • To minimise disruption to commercial activity
  • To protect property

Our client portfolio includes a range of industrial and commercial structures, from retail units to large logistic centres. Whatever the size of your project or budget, we can design, fabricate and install a highly effective fire safety system for you.

Our range of fire suppression systems

Our automatic fire suppression systems use sprinkler heads, which are activated to discharge a fire suppression agent. Our team will determine the number and location of sprinkler heads required and advise on the most appropriate agent for your premises. This decision will be affected by whether the building is occupied and what assets require protection.

Your fire protection may combine direct systems to suppress the nearest point of the fire and indirect systems to flood an area vulnerable to flames with a fire suppression agent.

The most popular fire suppression agents are :

Inert gas

Inert gases are colourless, odourless and safe for use in occupied areas. They are suitable for server rooms where water mist could damage electrical equipment.

Chemical gas

Chemical gas is also safe for occupied areas. One of this agent’s key benefits is its high effectiveness levels. Small quantities can suppress a fire if used in the early stages, meaning fewer sprinklers are required without compromising fire safety.

There is no residue from the discharge of a chemical agent, allowing for quicker clean-ups and minimal downtime for your business.

Carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide is a quick way to extinguish fires. It is an ideal agent for high-risk areas because of the heat produced by machinery.

However, this method depletes oxygen to an unsafe level and is most suitable for unoccupied areas.

Water mist

Water is the original fire suppression agent and is suitable for many contexts apart from those housing electrical equipment, paper-based assets and valuable textiles.

Armstrong Priestley sprinkler heads discharge highly pressurised water droplets that turn to vapour that quickly suppresses flames.

Aerosol suppression systems

Many of our commercial clients choose an aerosol agent designed to extinguish fire by creating a chemical reaction.
